There aren't that many people who can say they walked across the Mississippi River, but here you get that chance. Water is less than knee deep, and everyone does it. This was my 2nd trip here many … Full review by cbpilot

This area has something for everyone. The 600 feet level walking trail to the headwaters is a must do. As for Itaska SP, it is a great as well, lots of things to do. The Fire Tower is also fun when i… Full review by TravelerGEO

Took a bit of driving, navigation, and determination to get here (road signage was not overly easy through parts of the Ithaca Forest, but super easy from the Car Park), but we felt it was worth it.… Full review by Safariholic
I'm finding it difficult to know exactly where the sign is that locates the headwaters. Is it near Mary Gibbs Mississippi Headwaters Center? We want to visit in our motorhome and that looks like a good place to park.

I would head up I-55 and hit the sites of Memphis (Graceland, National Civil Rights Museum, Gibson Guitar Factory, Rock & Soul Museum, bbq & music of Beale St., etc.), St. Louis (go up the arch, baseball game at Busch stadium), Springfield, IL (Lincoln sites, my top 5 USA historical sites), cut west I-72 to Hannibal, MO (Great River Rd., Mark Twain sites), I-380 north to Waterloo, IA (John Deere Factory tour), I-35 N and then cut over to Bemidji, MN (lots of hotels) to drop into the north side of Lake Itasca for the headwaters.
