The series by creator Noah Hawley is described as a spin-off to the original Ridley Scott-directed film, " Alien ," from 1979. The film follows a space crew aboard the starship, Nostromo, who are on their journey back home when they receive a distress call from an alien vessel.

Ridley Scott’s “Alien” franchise has landed on TV with “Alien: Earth,” a prequel series set two years before the original space horror movie. It follows a brand new cast full of humans, synths, Xenomorphs and more as a group of soldiers investigate a crashed ship on Earth and discover some terrifying secrets inside.

The Alien franchise is so far reaching that it would be difficult for Noah to incorporate all aspects into the new show. Instead, he made the decision to step away from some aspects of the cinematic universe. In fact, in Noah's version of the tale, Prometheus and Alien: Covenant do not exist.
