WASHINGTON ― Republicans’ “big, beautiful bill” went down in a big, ugly flop as conservatives voted against the measure in the House Budget Committee on Friday. The bill would cut food and health care programs by $1 trillion to help pay for nearly $5 trillion in tax cuts representing President Donald Trump’s chief domestic policy goal of his second term.

House Republicans failed to pass the “one big beautiful bill” out of the Budget Committee on Friday after leadership was unable to persuade a handful of GOP fiscal hawks displeased with the reconciliation package’s timelines and ambiguity over raising the state and local taxes cap.
