Arriving from Chicago, Slater was placed on the Yankees' active roster about an hour before Wednesday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays, with lefty-hitting catcher-first baseman J.C. Escarra optioned to Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

On Wednesday morning, the White Sox traded outfielder Austin Slater to the New York Yankees in exchange for minor-league right-handed pitcher Gage Ziehl. Ahead of their 1:10 p.m. CT game against the Phillies on Wednesday at Rate Field, the White Sox recalled outfielder Will Robertson from Triple-A Charlotte.

The Yankees have acquired outfield Austin Slater in a trade with the Chicago White Sox, which appears to be the right-handed hitting outfielder trade that they were expected to make. Yankees' No. 18 prospect Gage Ziehl, a right-handed pitcher, was the return.
