The Maine high school football season wrapped up this past weekend with the Maine Principal’s Association (MPA) championships that took place at Portland High School’s Fitzpatrick Stadium and Lewiston High School,

The top-level Catholic League teams have firmly established dominance this season. St. Rita is now ranked No. 3 in the new Super 25, and the top six teams are all Catholic League squads. Loyola is back. That’s based on the Catholic League dominance and the Ramblers’ giving Mount Carmel its closest local challenge.

Round 2 of the FHSAA football state playoffs saw 11 Orlando teams striving to reach the elite eight in their classifications.

When they were put on upset watch this past weekend in their respective state semifinal matchups, several top seeds showed their championship mettle with comeback victories.

One of the top games to watch in the state this week is Peters Township (12-0) vs. Pine-Richland (11-1) in the Class 5A WPIAL final in western Pennsylvania. Pine-Richland is the No. 1 seed and Peters Township is No. 2.
