The heavy downpours wreaked havoc across the city with footage showing commuters overwhelmed by floodwaters in various subway stations.
Severe storms hammered parts of the tri-state area Monday afternoon into the late evening hours, flooding City subways, prompting dozens of water rescues and triggering a state of emergency in hard-hit parts of New Jersey.
A freak deluge Monday night turned parts of the city into a waterlogged maze, flooding subway stations, shutting down major roadways and delivering the second-wettest hour ever recorded in New York City history. Between 7 and 8 pm, Central Park clocked 2.07 inches of rain, second only to the remnants of Hurricane Ida in 2021.
The National Weather Service is predicting a slight chance of more rain Tuesday, July 15, after torrential rain, flooding Monday in the Lower Hudson Valley.

Roads and streets, meanwhile, are likely to flood during the downpour, said the Office of Emergency Management’s advisory. Flooded roads could spell trouble for the city’s bus riders and drivers. The city warned motorists not to drive through flooded roads.
