About 75,000 federal workers took a deferred buyout offer put forward by President Donald Trump’s administration, Reuters reported Thursday, citing a spokesperson for the U.S. Office of Management and Budget.

The buyout is one of many approaches Trump is taking to slash a civilian workforce of 2.3 million that he has blasted as ineffective and biased against him.

Feb. 12 Boston-based federal Judge George O’Toole removed his freeze on the buyout offer, allowing the Trump administration to proceed with its program after ruling the labor unions that sued the administration lacked legal standing to challenge the buyout because they did not have a direct stake in the dispute.
