Amazon's started paying out $1.5 billion of its record-breaking settlement with the FTC which is earmarked to refund Prime customers.
Amazon Prime users who unknowingly signed up for the monthly service may be eligible fora payment as part of a $2.5 billion settlement. The online shopping giant and the Federal Trade Commission agreed to a settlement stemming from claims that Amazon violated FTC rules by “knowingly misleading millions of consumers into enrolling in Prime.”
The payout marks the beginning of more than $1.5 billion scheduled to be distributed to consumers under the $2.5 billion settlement, which stems from allegations that Amazon tricked users into enrolling in Prime and made canceling the subscription difficult.
