The FTC's lawsuit had accused Amazon of misleading customers into enrolling in Prime and making it hard for them to cancel their membership.

Amazon has begun sending out refunds to customers as part of its $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission.

Amazon is required to pay a $1 billion civil penalty and return $1.5 billion to roughly 35 million customers who were misled into enrolling in Prime or stuck paying for it.
