The Flat Fire has destroyed four homes and six other types of buildings in central Oregon as it continues burning roughly two miles northeast of Sisters.

The Garnet Fire, which began Sunday in Fresno County in central California, has burned 8,500 acres and is 0% contained, the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reported.

Elsewhere in the West, a fast-spreading wildfire in Northern California's wine country and a monstrous blaze in Central Oregon continued to threaten homes on Monday as firefighters battling the flames coped with extremely dry conditions and rugged terrain, authorities said.
