Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has announced a new partnership between the Florida Highway Patrol and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to enhance immigration enforcement within the state.

It is not clear how many of nearly 2,000 sworn troopers currently employed by the FHP would be deputized and trained or how much it would cost,

"This agreement will give FHP expanded power and authority to interrogate any suspected alien or person believed to be an alien" in the U.S., DeSantis said.

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is taking a bigger role in immigration enforcement efforts around the state. Over the weekend, troopers helped federal agents in Fort Myers. Last week, Gov. Ron DeSantis said the state signed an agreement with the Department of Homeland Security for troopers to begin enforcing immigration law.
