The Bruins activated star forward Elias Lindholm from injured reserve. The move signals Lindholm will play tonight against the San Jose Sharks, having missed Boston's last 10 games. The Bruins transferred Charlie McAvoy to injured reserve to make roster space.

Already missing three of its top-six forwards, Boston fell to the Ducks Wednesday night without its No. 1 defenseman.

McAvoy could return. McAvoy left the Bruins' Nov. 15 game midway through the second period after being struck by Montreal Canadiens defenseman Noah Dobson's shot. He was bleeding and needed help getting off the ice at Montreal's Bell Centre.
