The United States inserted itself into Israel 's war against Iran, bombing three of the Islamic Republic's key nuclear sites overnight in an attack it dubbed “Operation Midnight Hammer.” U.S. President Donald Trump asserted that the sites were “completely and fully obliterated,” and warned there would be additional strikes if Iran retaliates.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that any military action by the U.S. in the escalating war with Israel would be "very, very dangerous for everybody."

Still, many Israelis, including Yair Lapid, the leader of the political opposition, agreed that the events overnight were “historic,” regardless of the results, and thanked Mr. Trump. “Israel, the Middle East and the world are now safer,” he wrote on social media.
