The EV maker will roll out about 10 self-driving cars next month and scale up to about a thousand, Musk told CNBC in an interview.

Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk on Tuesday said a test of robotaxis would begin on schedule in Austin, Texas by the end of June. Musk in a CNBC interview said that he expected Austin to launch with about 10 cars and that robotaxi deployment would scale up to about a thousand within a few months.

Tesla is hitting the throttle on its autonomous vehicle ambitions, with CEO Elon Musk confirming the company will launch its robotaxi service in Austin.
