David Letterman delivered a fiery rant against CBS and parent company Paramount for cancelling Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show,” calling the decision “gutless” and “pure cowardice” as he labeled his successor a martyr of the network.

David Letterman didn't hold back in calling out Paramount for acting out of "cowardice" in canceling his former CBS program, "The Late Show."

Speaking with his former executive producer, Barbara Gaines, in a YouTube video Friday, Letterman called the axing of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert “pure cowardice” and said he doesn’t believe the official line from CBS that the decision was purely about economics (the show has reportedly become a money-loser for the network).

CBS said the cancellation wasn't related to "content or other matters happening at Paramount." Paramount controversially agreed to settle a lawsuit brought by Trump over a "60 Minutes" interview with then-presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

"The people at CBS who have manipulated and handled this are going to be embarrassed,” the former 'Late Show' host says. “This is gutless”

Sandra Oh criticized CBS and Paramount during her appearance on 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' on July 21 after its cancellation was announced. The network said it was "a financial decision," but the news came days after Colbert criticized Paramount for its $16 million settlement with President Donald Trump.

The View" co-host Sunny Hostin suggested on Tuesday that the decision to cancel “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" could lead to the end of democracy.

CBS parent Paramount insists that this week's decision to cancel Steven Colbert's “Late Show” was strictly financial, and had nothing to do with politics.
