More than 40,000 Arizonans around the Valley lost power on Monday night as dust, rain and thunder made its way through the Phoenix metro area.
Parts of the Valley were hit with heavy rain on Aug. 26, but this storm was more selective, skipping areas hammered by a dust storm a day earlier.
A major monsoon storm hit the Phoenix metro area and Pinal County, marking the largest of 2025. Tens of thousands are without power, and delays at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport have been extensive.
Temperatures will climb to around 112, which is one degree away from tying a record hot temperature. Extreme Heat Warnings will be in effect for the Valley and southern AZ until 8 p.m., but they may be extended into the weekend, since temperatures will stay around 110 on Saturday and Sunday.

A couple tying the knot in Chandler was hoping for some great photos when Monday's monsoon mayhem had other plans so a coffee shop stepped up to help. The planned portrait session for Jamie and Bekka Ham outside was scrapped when the summer storm moved in. A nearby coffee shop owner helped make the day memorable. Sarah Robinson has more.
