WASHINGTON—The Senate voted largely along party lines to confirm Tulsi Gabbard as the director of national intelligence, after she overcame skepticism from Republicans about whether she was the right person for the post.

Senate Republicans on Wednesday confirmed one of President Donald Trump's most controversial Cabinet nominees, Tulsi Gabbard, to become the nation's director of National Intelligence.

The Senate confirmed Tulsi Gabbard, a veteran and former Democratic congresswoman, as director of national intelligence in a 52-48 vote.
