Mamdani, who defeated former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and several other contenders in Tuesday’s primary, is a democratic socialist who campaigned on establishing city-run grocery stores, a $30 minimum wage by 2030 and free tuition at city colleges.

New York Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, who is on track to win the Democratic Party ’s nomination in the New York City mayoral race, on Wednesday reacted to Donald Trump calling him a “100% Communist Lunatic” following his surprise success, warning the president that he is prepared to challenge the more cruel elements of his agenda.

“Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous. He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart.”
