When Democrat John Fetterman got elected to the U.S. Senate from Pennsylvania, many backers had hoped he'd challenge the status quo.

“I think I agree with that,” Sunny Hostin agreed, adding that she thinks he’s “brilliant.” While she agreed with Navarro’s point about the “optics” of trekking to Florida and “kissing the ring,” she thought Fetterman’s decision was “shrewd.”

After his visit with just-about-to-be president Donald Trump in Mar-a-Lago, many members of Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman’s base are confused. Why would a Democrat who relied on progressives to be elected be making nice with Trump?

Ten years on, as the senior senator from a major state, Fetterman gets plenty of notice. Including recently for being the first Democratic Senator to meet with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago, and for seeming to be what many see as a new and different Fetterman.

As Trump’s inauguration nears, Fetterman has shown the most receptiveness — and sometimes enthusiasm — to work with Trump of any Democrat in the Senate.

The timing and location of their meeting are unclear, including whether it would take place before Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20. “It’s just about a conversation,” Fetterman said.

The Pennsylvania senator, a Democrat, said he would "meet with and have a conversation with anyone" to deliver for his state.

"I've been clear that no one is my gatekeeper. I will meet with and have a conversation with anyone if it helps me deliver for Pennsylvania and the nation," Fetterman said.
