The Department of Justice is suing Illinois and Chicago for not assisting with enforcement efforts led by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Leaders including Gov. CHICAGO — Top Trump administration officials, including “border czar” Tom Homan and the acting deputy attorney general, visited Chicago on Sunday to witness the start of ramped-up immigration enforcement in the nation’s third-largest city as federal agencies touted arrests around the country.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a federal lawsuit on Thursday against the state of Illinois, the city of Chicago, Cook County, and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, alleging that local laws are obstructing the Trump administration’s efforts to enforce federal immigration policies.
