The Detroit Lions have agreed to hire Denver Broncos assistant John Morton as offensive coordinator and promote Kelvin Sheppard to defensive coordinator, according to a person familiar with the situation.

Lions formally announce hiring of Morton and promotion of Sheppard

The 55-year-old Morton replaces Ben Johnson, who departed the club to take the head coaching post with the Chicago Bears. Morton was a senior offensive assistant with the Lions in 2022 before moving on to the Denver Broncos to serve as the team’s passing game co-ordinator.
