Kim Leadbeater has proposed that advertising assisted dying services should be banned as she attempts to strengthen her Bill before it is put before Parliament. The Labour MP, who is sponsoring the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill which would allow people in England and Wales with fewer than six months to live to end their lives,
Meanwhile, Kim Leadbeater, the MP behind the Westminster Bill, praised the “lengthy, constructive and compassionate debate” in the Scottish Parliament, saying they had “listened to the voices of those with personal experience of those injustices and concluded that the status quo cannot be defended any longer”.
The Bill, backed by the Daily Express Give Us Our Last Rights campaign, would allow adults over 18 who are terminally ill and are in the final six months of their life to request assistance from a doctor to end their life. A government assessment has estimate there could eventually be up to 4,500 assisted deaths each year,
MSPs will vote this week on whether or not to allow terminally ill adults to seek medical help to end their lives.
