Ukrainian companies are increasing the production of fiber-optic drones.The drones can't be jammed with traditional electronic warfare, making them a huge threat in combat.BI spoke with several people involved in the effort to scale up production to keep pace with Russia.

It came as Russia and Ukraine swapped 150 prisoners of war each and UK foreign secretary David Lammy met with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.

Among the 1,300 new models of weapons and military equipment developed and codified since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the largest category consists of UAVs and their ammunition.

Russia launched 112 Shahed attack drones and decoy UAVs of various types against Ukraine on the night of 6-7 February. Ukrainian air defence managed to down 81 drones, while 31 failed to reach their targets.

Ukraine has, for some time, fielded large "mothership" drones that can carry and eventually deploy a set of smaller attack drones. This approach can, for example, get light and fast FPV attack drones behind the front lines before releasing them, thereby extending the attack drones' limited range.
