Pope Leo XIV has met with members of his Augustinian religious order during a visit to the congregation’s headquarters outside St. Peter’s Square.

Pope Leo XIV surprised the faithful by visiting the Augustinian Marian sanctuary in the town of Genazzano near Rome on Saturday. This is the first unexpected visit by the new Pope, just two days after being chosen in the conclave.

The Order of St. Augustine, with fewer than 3,000 members, shaped the man who would become a cardinal, and then pope to the world’s Roman Catholics.
