Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.) says Republicans aren’t actually cutting anyone’s federal health or food benefits in President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax bill — a plan that slashes $1 trillion from Medicaid and food assistance programs.

Proposed cuts to the country’s largest food aid program could slash benefits currently going to one in six Oregonians or shift more than $1 billion in program costs to the state in each two-year budget cycle.

Medicaid has become a key hot button topic in the sweeping tax and spending cuts bill that House Republicans are scrambling to pass as soon as this week.
