The Seattle Storm will unveil a statue of former franchise star Sue Bird on August 17, making the four-time champion the first player to be honored with their own statue by a WNBA franchise.

On July 2, news broke that women's basketball legend and longtime Seattle Storm superstar Sue Bird was becoming the first WNBA player in history to have a statue built for them by a franchise, as Bird's statue will go up outside of Seattle's Climate Pledge Arena on August 17.

The Storm said in a release the first 7,500 fans attending the Aug. 17 game will receive an original drawing of a classic Bird game-action photo created by local Seattle artist Keegan Hall. Doors will open at the Climate Pledge Arena 90 minutes before tipoff at 1:30 p.m.
