During the northbound I-5 Interstate Bridge closure Sept. 12-20, travelers between Vancouver and Portland will share the three existing lanes and sidewalk on the southbound bridge. A movable concrete barrier will shift lanes to allow for two lanes of travel in the direction of the heaviest commute times. Last weekend, Atkinson Construction installed this 223-foot-long, 246,500-pound record-setting girder on the new southbound I-5 Puyallup River bridge in Tacoma. We pulled together a video of the installation. It's the longest prestressed girder ever manufactured in the United States.
