50 years since Iceland’s Women’s Strike On UN Day, October 24, 1975, about 90% of Icelandic women stopped work at businesses and at home to show how essential their labor is. Rallies took place nationwide. In Reykjavík, about 25,000 people (over 11% of Iceland’s population) gathered for one of the largest outdoor demonstrations in Iceland’s history.
