620 West Genesee - former home of James Belden. Born in 1825, James was a prominent businessman and politician who served as mayor of Syracuse and later congressman. He was involved in several successful business pursuits that included railroads, canals and other public construction projects. At the time of his death in 1904, Belden was regarded as the “richest man in Syracuse,” with an estimated wealth of $10,000,000.
