Today we honor the legacy of Dr. Frank E. Boston, a decorated World War I veteran, surgeon and one of the first African American physicians in the region to found both an ambulance corps and a hospital. Dr. Boston established the Volunteer Medical Service Corps (VMSC), one of the earliest ambulance corps in the country, helping lay the groundwork for modern emergency medical services.
