Brugada syndrome is an inherited arrhythmia disorder caused by SCN5A gene mutations that impair sodium channel function. The condition may first present as syncope, seizure-like activity, or even sudden death, often without any structural heart disease. The type 1 Brugada pattern on ECG is only diagnostic in the presence of symptoms. Without them, it’s the Brugada sign, which still warrants follow-up but not necessarily intervention.
