This little wooden figure survived the Maya lowlands almost by accident.Known as the Mirror-bearer, it was carved by Maya artists in Guatemala or Mexico, 410–650 AD, from Cordia wood with traces of red hematite.Look under the arms: those notches once held a missing mirror plaque.Was this mainly a court object, a ritual tool, or something between both?
