These are the two bassoon solos from Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade. This piece is based on the book The Arabian Nights, where a princess escapes death by captivating her kidnpaper with a story. The bassoon represents the introduction into her tale. This is one of my favorite pieces and one of the best symphonic poems.
