January 27, 2026: SpaceX has launched the GPS-III SV09 mission aboard Falcon 9 B1096-5 from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. On board today's mission was another GPS Block III satellite, as part of the next generation GPS constelation launched to Medium Earth Orbit. SpaceX just launched the GPS III SV-08 satellite for the U.S. Space Force, setting a new record for the fastest turnaround of a national security mission. The official launch order was received on March 7, allowing SpaceX and the Space Force to prepare and execute the mission in under three months—a significant acceleration compared to the typical 18–24 months for such missions. The GPS III SV-08 satellite, also known as USA-440, is part of the GPS Block III series developed by Lockheed Martin.
